Mystery of Teleportation

Putting one step ahead of Albert Einstein

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2022 was awarded jointly to Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser and Anton Zeilinger “for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.”

Alain Aspect was born in 1947 in Agen, France. Ph.D. 1983 from Paris-Sud University, Orsay, France. Professor at Université Paris-Saclay and ÉcolePolytechnique Palaiseau France.

Alain developed a setup to close an important loophole. He was able to switch the measurement settings after an entangled pair had left its source, so the original setting that existed when they were emitted could not affect the result.

John F. Clauser was born in 1942 in Pasadena, CA, USA. Ph.D. 1969 from Columbia University, New York, USA. Research Physicist, J.F. Clauser& Assoc., Walnut Creek, CA, USA.

John Clauser built an apparatus that emitted two entangled photons at a time, each towards a filter that tested their polarization. The result was a clear violation of a Bell inequality and agreed with the predictions of quantum mechanics.

Anton Zeilinger, born 1945 in RiedimInnkreis, Austria. Ph.D.  1971 from the University of Vienna, Austria. Professor at the University of Vienna, Austria.

He researched entangled quantum states. His research group has demonstrated a phenomenon called quantum teleportation, which makes it possible to move a quantum state from one particle to one at a distance.

Research Explained:

The research done by this scientist is really a hot, dangerous, and mysterious topic in quantum physics. Even Albert Einstein also states that Quantum entanglement is “spooky action at a distance”.

Quantum entanglement means “The ability of separated objects to share a condition or state”, which means there is a always relation between two objects irrespective of their distance and some quantum information between them.

This theory was rejected by many scientists but aspect, Clauser and Zeilinger give a specific direction to this theory that it was not imaginary but real.

This means in classical physics light has maximum speed (according to Einstein) but in quantum mechanics, there is something present that transports irrespective of distance immediately.

His area of research has demonstrated a phenomenon called quantum teleportation, which makes it possible to transfer a quantum state from one particle to one at a distance.

Explaining the concept of quantum teleportation, he said that it uses the features of entanglement which can be used to transport information, carried by the object, to another place where the object is then reconstituted. This can be done without knowing the information, because to know the information would violate Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle which states that the position and the momentum of an object cannot be measured exactly, at the same time, even in theory.

Application (may be possible in the future):

1) Special properties of individual particle systems to construct quantum computers, improve measurements,

2) Build quantum networks and establish secure quantum encrypted communication

3) Teleportation

Conclusion:

Truly scientists always astonished us with their great attitude of making impossible things possible. Research breaks the norm that light has max speed, and proves that there exists something in nature that is faster than light. It increases the probability of teleportation, which previously was just an illusion. Further research into this field is ongoing, and its applications promise to revolutionize the way man operates.

The attitude of scientists always teaches us that all impossible things can be possible unless and until we work on it because the word ‘impossible’ itself says that ‘I am possible’.
