never give up spirit, Oprah, a brand herself, has encouraged and continues to
encourage millions, around the world.

FACTORS FOR HER SUCCESS
o
A
tough Girlhood: A
bright student, Winfrey lived under the solid guidance of her grandmother. At age
6 she reconciled with her mother, separated from her father, where she lived in
a dangerous neighbourhood. At 12 she was sent to Nashville, where she gave
speeches in gatherings and churches. When sent again to her mother, she
experienced sexual abuse, which also had a negative effect on Oprah as a teenager.
o
Turning
point of her life:
o
Influencing
professional career:
Sooner she added one more success to her cart and hosted a show 'Baltimore is Talking' with her co-host Richard Sher.
Seven years with this show and once again her fate glittered when the GM of WLS-TV, American Broadcasting Company's affiliate saw Winfrey in an audition tape.
Winfrey's rating at the time of this offer was better than Phil Donahue's , a national talk show host.
This time it came with a challenge the show was consistently last in the ratings. Winfrey overcame this by shifting the show's base to current and controversial topics rather than traditional women issues. This shift made Winfrey to jump even ahead of Donahue's program within months.
In September 1985 the program was extended to one hour and got its new name as 'Oprah Winfrey Show'.
In the same year she was offered a movie by Quincy Jones.
A great success indeed!
o
Philanthropy
and popularity: She
has won several accolades for her charity including the Presidential Medal
of Freedom, and had been into top 50 most generous Americans from 2004-2010.
Oprah’s Angel Network, founded in 1998, supports charitable projects and
NGOs. She established Oprah Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls in
Johannesburg, which was even praised by Nelson Mandela. Apart from these initiatives,
she also donates from her personal fortune.
